Uprooted : the book
Uprooted is a book of design and floral artistry by Mike Hines of EPOCH CHICAGO. Uprooted, a series of images illustrating a palette of dark desaturated images full of grit and beautiful decay. A review of floral organics, details, and a unique display of complex simplicity. Partnering with Hines was a collaboration of authors producing an essence void of color, bringing a certain urban influence from two different creative disciplines. From concrete and dirt backgrounds to Japanese treated wood, the images came to life. Uprooted had little restriction full of ideas crunching backgrounds, burning surfaces and smashing glass. This untethered book was a creative outlet of pure joy.
Passé : the work
Passé is a collection of works developed from the novel ideas created for Uprooted. Exploring vast prairies and tall grasses of the midwest, watching the natural vegetation turn crisp and evaporate. A fossilized state of delicate twists removed of color once dotting botanical sanctuaries and fields. The lifeless rigidity captured of line and pattern parched of moisture, creates earthly textures of light and shadow.
